Rate Configuration

Rate configuration determines how much is charged per hour. Atlas supports multiple rate tiers that can be overridden at different levels.

Rate Hierarchy

Rates are applied in this priority order (highest to lowest):

  1. Engagement-level rate — specific rate agreed for an entity/service
  2. User-level rate — rate set for a specific staff member
  3. Service-level rate — default rate for the service
  4. Practice default rate — fallback rate from practice settings

Setting Rates

Practice Default Rate

  1. Navigate to SettingsPractice Settings
  2. Set the Default Hourly Rate (e.g. R 1,200/hr)
  3. This is used when no other rate applies

User Rates

  1. Navigate to SettingsTeam Members
  2. Click on a user
  3. Set their Hourly Rate (e.g. R 800/hr for a clerk, R 1,500/hr for a partner)

Service Rates

  1. Navigate to SettingsServices
  2. Edit a service
  3. Set the Default Rate for that service type

Engagement Rates

  1. Open an entity → Engagements tab
  2. Edit an engagement
  3. Set the Fee Amount or override the hourly rate

Example Rate Calculation

For a time entry by a Senior Accountant on "Advisory" for "TechStart (Pty) Ltd":

Result: R 1,400/hr × 2 hours = R 2,800

Currency

Atlas uses South African Rand (ZAR) by default. The currency is configured in Practice Settings.
